Blue Cheese and Berry Fruit Salad

This is something my friends Clacy Olson and Scott Furois helped me come up with one summer's day. I was looking for something to server with elk and venison steaks in mushroom sauce, and this is what we came up with. If you like blue cheese, you'll probably like this.

This was partially inspired by the salads served at Mackenzie River Pizza Co., where they have diced pears on the salad. I've really enjoyed their salads with blue cheese dressing.

Blue Cheese Fruit Salad

Serves about 6

Wash apples and pears. Core and cut into bite sized pieces. Rinse blueberries and raspberries and drain.

Mix yogurt and blue cheese crumbles, and add nutmeg to taste (just a dash, it won't take much). This mixture will be very tart. don't worry, the fruit will sweeten it up.

Toss apples, pears, blueberries and raspberries in a large bowl. Slowly pour over the yogurt mixture while continuing to stir. The raspberries will break apart giving the salad a pink color.

Serve immediately, or chill to hold.

Serve as a side dish with your favorite meal, or as a light dessert.
